Dongzao
Date
tree is a rare tree species that can only be found in China,
a country with over 4000 years history of cultivating.
Date includes many varieties, among which Dongzao is the best
thanks to its unique taste, succulent and tender pulp and rich
nutrition contained. The test conducted by Beijing Nutrition
Resource Research Institute proved that Dongzao contained 19
kinds of amino acids that human body need such as aspartic acid.
It also provided rich content of vitamin C, which was 70 times
of apple and 100 times of pear. Besides, rare elements such
as K, Fe, Cu can be found in Dongzao as well. Due to its high
nutritious content, it was famed by name of "King of Fruits".
A professor from the Institute of Life Science Research, Gardening
Department of Oregon University in USA paid a visit here just
for a taste of the fruit. After ate it, the professor made a
two-thumbs-up to show his recognition.
Dongzao has a particularly strong adaptability to the environment
and can bear dry and barren conditions. Thus, it can be widely
planted anywhere across the country. In addition, they can be
transplanted with wild dates and is very ideal for family cultivation
to generate wealth. The season of maturity for Zongzao is between
the end of September and the end of October. Because the pulp
is hard and crisp, thus the keeping period is relatively longer
than other dates. They can be kept frozen till the Spring Festival.
The market price is around 40 yuan per kg. However that price
may rise to 80 yuan around the Spring Festival.
As a unique native product of China, Dongzao is not only sold
well in major domestic cities such as Beijing, Qingdao, Dalian,
Shanghai, Shenzhen and HK, but also enjoys popular sales in
American and European countries. By awaring of this huge market
potential, many counties have listed the Dongzao cultivation
as a key project to promote the local economy.
So far, we have established a 100-mu Dongzao growing garden
in Beijing and a large Dongzao seedling cultivation base in
Shandong to ensure supply and provide related technical assistance
as well. By next year's Spring Festival, we will be able to
supply around 100,000 seedlings that grow to 1.5m to 2m high.
